TOKYO – Square Enix has officially released a brand-new gameplay trailer for their highly anticipated RPG, Final Fantasy Resonance. The two-minute trailer showcases stunning visuals, combat mechanics, and locks in the official release date for consoles and PC.

For long-time fans, Final Fantasy Resonance will feel familiar. The game is a ground-up, standalone rebuild of the popular mobile gacha game, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. However, Square Enix is making a bold move by completely stripping away all gacha mechanics and microtransactions, transforming it into a premium, traditional single-player RPG.

Breathtaking “Cinematic Pixel Art” Visuals

The main highlight of the trailer is the game’s gorgeous HD-2D visual style. Square Enix describes this aesthetic as “cinematic pixel art,” which blends the nostalgic charm of classic 16-bit sprites with modern 3D lighting, depth of field, and environmental effects. It is the same visual engine that powered hits like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy.

Return of Classic Gameplay and the “Visions” System

The new trailer offers a deep look into the core gameplay mechanics:

  • Turn-Based Combat: The game returns to classic turn-based roots, paired with a deep Job System. Players can freely customize their party’s abilities and switch jobs to fit their strategy.

  • The “Visions” Mechanic: Serving as a core element of both the story and combat, this feature allows players to summon the crystal essences of legendary Final Fantasy heroes—such as Cecil, Bartz, Squall, Zidane, and Tidus—to fight alongside them.

  • Overworld Exploration: The trailer confirms the return of classic world map exploration. Players can travel using Chocobos and Airships to visit unique locations, including the tech-fueled city of Dilmagia and the water nation of Olderion.

Release Date and Platforms

Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch globally on October 22, 2026.

Square Enix has confirmed the game will be available on almost all major platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Steam), and both Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2. Digital and physical pre-orders are now officially live across all platform storefronts.
